Sunfun April 2023

Prayers and Praises

April had some amazingly beautiful days, and then played a bunch of “will it be nice enough?” games for the rest of the month. We did some yard work, and I bought a bike (I’ve been using the bike i bought as a teenager) and a bike attachement for Sofia, so it turns Caid’s bike into basically a two seater bicycle. But then it was horrible weather, so our first family bike ride didn’t happen until May. But it was glorious.

I (Rachel) had surgery the beginning of April: they removed a polyp from my uterus as well as heating the lining to stop heavy bleeding. The whole thing took 20 minutes, and I woke up with the moody/irritated/depressed feeling that I’d been dealing with about two weeks out of every month GONE. I was still tired and had some cramps, but it was SO. MUCH. BETTER. I am so grateful. I am also grateful for the Velvel Ashes online conference I got to be a part of: a special part of my year.

Caid has been enjoying teaching more and more. It is so nice to see him grow into it. He is also in the middle of writing at least two songs, and hopes to have them ready to release on Spotify soon. Sofia is doing great at school, and as we walk to school, we see that the irises are just about to bloom. Irises are the Bate-Henricks community we are in—it is their thing. So many Irises. And Jessica always gets so excited and says, “The virises are almost here! So many virises!”

April always feels like it is on the cusp of something big: the end of the school year, graduations, summer plans, WARM WEATHER, and so on. It was a lovely month for our family. I was able to purchase my tickets to Brazil: I’ll be gone June 22-July 7, and then we will be leaving to visit Caid’s famly in Connecticut on the 9th. It is all so special, and coming soon!
