Favorite Book of 2022

I’ve gotten to read a lot of books this year. I am so grateful to libraries, that make my reading desires financially possible:). I have especially read a lot of graphic novels. It is a really neat medium that connects and reflects powerfully. But my favorite book this year is “The Deeply Formed Life” by Rich Villodas.

Carol Wright gave me this book at the beginning of the year, and asked if I wanted to meet monthly to talk about the chapters. It is nicely divided into 5 sections, with two chapters each, and discussion questions in the back. It meant so much to me to have her take time out of her schedule to mentor and invest in me. This book added to the beauty of those conversations. Thank you so much Carol! That was the best present I recieved!

I got especially excited about three of the sections, as they line up perfectly with my own passions: racial reconciliation, sexual wholeness, and missional presense. I was really blessed with not only how Rich explained and defined and clarified them, but gave practical application to them. For each one I felt like he really got to the heart of the issues, without belittling or babying anyone about it. That is a rare gift. I follow him on Instagram now, and am regularly blessed by his kind insights that never shirk responsiblity, but never stop inviting everyone into them.
